Amela Kovacevic
Owner and caregiver
Amela cares for children in her own home in Owensboro. She cooks lunch, greets each child at the door and talks with families in Bosnian and English.
Amela grew up in Bosnia and came to Kentucky as a young woman. She began caring for children at home when her own were small, and she wants families to know her before they decide.
She keeps the day slow: a long morning at the table, lunch cooked from scratch, a rest for anyone who needs one and an hour in the yard. Families are welcome to stay a while at drop-off, in either language.

The house
A kitchen, a living room and a garden
The children spend the day in the same rooms Amela's family lives in.
The kitchen table is where the children eat, draw and roll out clay. The yard has a bed for lettuces and herbs, and the children water it.
